  13. This file contains instructions on how to update DiskGuard  as well as the latest compatibility information.

  19. Updating DiskGuard 
  20.  
  21. The updater will update DiskGuard  versions 1.8.5 and 1.8.6 only.
  22. To update your version of DiskGuard:
  23. - Launch the DiskGuard Updater application.
  24. - In the open dialog which appears, select the DiskGuard control panel you want
  25.    to update and click Open.
  26. - A dialog appears telling you that the update was successful. Click OK.
  27. - Open the DiskGuard control panel you just updated. It will automatically update the
  28.    protections on your protected disks.

  30. The update folder also contains a new version of Emergency Remove, version 1.8.7.
  31. Prior versions of Emergency Remove will not remove the hard disk protections installed with DiskGuard versions from 1.8.6 up.

  33. Compatibility

  35. We have made every possible effort to ensure the reliability of DiskGuard. However, because of the wide variety of software and hardware available today, it is impossible to test all possible configurations. Therefore, we advise you to make a reliable backup of your hard disk before installing DiskGuard and to continue making backups regularly.

  37. This version of DiskGuard has been tested with System 7.0 through Mac OS 9.0. 
  38. New features in the System can make DiskGuard incompatible with new System versions. If you use a later version of the System, feel free to call us to check the compatibility of DiskGuard with that System or the availability of a compatible version.

  68. If a protected disk does not boot correctly, you must remove DiskGuard's volume protection from that disk before starting to repair it or recover your data. You can remove the protection with the Emergency Remove application.

  70. WARNING: Do not try to repair an unbootable protected disk using a repair utility like Disk First Aid‚Ñ¢, Norton Disk Doctor‚Ñ¢ or MacTools¬Æ as this may damage the protection itself. You must first remove the protection with Emergency Remove.

  72. 1. Boot from a CD-ROM or another startup disk.
  73. 2. Open the Emergency Remove program by double-clicking its icon.
  74. 3. Select the disk from which you want to remove the protection, then click
  75.     the Remove‚Ķ button.
  76.     You are prompted to enter the password. Enter it and click OK.
  77.     The protection is removed.
